About Shield™

Shield™ is an anti-microbial, decorative curtain fabric that eliminates the most common bacteria classed as the worst sources of hospital-acquired infections, including MRSA, E. coli and C. diff

Features of Shield™

  • Destroys bacteria on contact.
  • Preventing cross infection.
  • Air filtration – acts as a filter as air circulates around the patient.
  • Repels stains and reduces washing and maintenance costs.
  • Inherently flame retardant to BS 5867 Part 2, Type B. Passes USA standard NFPA701 and meets the requirements of HTM87.
  • Anti fungal properties to control the problems of bacteria, fungi, mould, mildew and algae.
  • Keeps fabrics looking fresh, clean and bright.
Technically endorsed by laboratory certification

technical summary

The term anti-microbial refers to a broad range of technologies that can provide varying degrees of protection for textile products against micro-organisms. These are prominent features of the Shield™ range to control bacteria, fungi, mould, mildew and algae and the problems of deterioration, staining, odours, and health concerns that they cause.

The benefits of anti-microbial protection:

  • Prevents cross infection.
  • Provides a safe sterile environment.
  • Prevents deterioration and discolouration caused by bacteria, fungi, algae and yeasts.
  • Retains the freshness of an article by inhibiting or resisting the growth of odour causing bacteria and fungi.
  • Prolongs the life of an article by inhibiting the growth of micro-organisms.
  • Provides hygienic freshness.
  • Provides a treatment that is not destroyed by repeated thermal washing.
    (N.H.S. requirements as per HTM87: 50 washes at 75 ˚C / 160˚F)

design summary

Shield™ anti-microbial fabric is available in all printed designs from the Panaz Portfolio, ranging from classic florals to relaxed geometrics and bright bold contemporary abstracts. Panaz also offer a "custom" design service for larger projects.

air filtration

Shield™, in conjunction with the Aegis Anti Microbial technology not only destroys bacteria on contact but also acts as a filter as air circulates around the patient.

Shield™ Diagram 1: Shows how the fabric carries a positive charge and how cell membranes are negatively charged. Shield™ Diagram 2: Demonstrates bacterial cells coming into contact with a treated surface. The bacterial cell is completely destroyed. Shield™ Diagram 3: Figure shows that the negatively charged cells do not diminish and exist for the lifespan of the product.
Aegis Microbe Shield™ Technology carries positive charged molecules, cell membranes are negatively charged. This causes the micro-organisms to be attracted to the treated surface.
When the bacterial cell comes into contact with the treated surface, the Aegis Microbe Shield™ destroys the cell completely.
Rather than diminish, the Aegis Microbe Shield™ remains intact in order to continue protecting throughout the lifespan of the product.
